History: In 1938 the Archdiocese of Calcutta purchased 6 kattas of land from the Bengal Coal Company Ltd. The company entered into an agreement of a permanent lease with the Archdiocese of Calcutta. Fr. Drugman SJ as an assistant to Fr. E. Verstraelen at Sacred Heart Church, Asansol, took keen interest to build a Church. With the contribution from the Archdiocese and donations of Mr. Humpreys and others the Church was built and blessed. After 1980s it was practically abandoned. Fr. I.P. Sarto revivied the mission in 2000. Fr. Mangal Das SJ started a hostel for tribal boys with the intention of imparting Education in English medium and Fr. Aloysius Vanigasoorior continued the initiative for educating the tribal boys. At present Fr. Michael Pandian CMF renovated the Church and started Pious Association of Missionaries of St. Claret for women. He started St. Mary's Academy for Rural Transformation(SMART).
