History: Fr. Mangal Das SJ, was appointed to explore the possibilities of starting a centre in Bankura area in 1980. He started the evangelization work through non-formal education. In September 1999 a hostel was started for children in a rented house in Jhantipahari as it is closer to the Railway station and for easy communication facility than Mirga village by Fr. Mangal Das SJ. A plot of land was purchased at Jhantipahari in 2001, where, in 2004, he constructed a tribal hostel with assistance from the diocese. Subsequent Jesuit priests have stayed there and looked after the Hostel. A school was built in 2013.
