ASHA NIKETAN, BURDWAN

History: The great flood in 2000 provided an opportunity to Fr. Wilson Fernandes, who at that time was in-charge of Jisu Sadan, Dhitpur, to discover Talbona, a part of the Purbastali Block and then also a part of Dhitpur Parish, as he was engaged in relief and rehabilitation work. An urgent need was felt to build a centre there. Fr. Valerian Fernandes purchased the land in 2002 and in November 2004 laid the foundation stone in the presence of Fr. Henry Rodrigues, who succeeded Fr. Wilson at Dhitpur. Asha Niketan Community Centre was blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Cyprian Monis on October 18, 2008.
